LATEST NEWS - From the world of rugby and beer....
ROB WEBBER

Position: Hooker
Weight: 16st 7lbs
Height: 6' 0"
Date of Birth: 01/08/1986
Former Clubs: Leeds Tykes
Honours:

England U19, U18, U16

Rob Webber already has two world cups under his belt, he has played in the Wasps first team, has captained their 'A' team and played for the Barbarians, and all this at the tender age of 19.

He is also attracting the praise of those in the know. Wasps Coach Shaun Edwards said after a recent 'A' game at Bath "He's got all the right leadership qualities. He's a real handful, a proper Yorkshireman. He led the troops magnificently well tonight, and I think he has the potential to be a future Wasps captain."

High praise indeed.

"Its good when you get praise like that but I can't think about things like that yet. I do enjoy being captain though, it gives me focus and its great to learn from all the excellent leaders at Wasps"

But Rob isn't resting on his laurels. He has his sights set on the U21 world cup this year in France.

"Its something I'm aiming towards, I'd like to go, and if it doesn't happen this year, then hopefully I will make it the following year"

He certainly has the right attitude.

"I'm just working hard, I get my head down and get on with it. I'm constantly looking to improve my game and hopefully the opportunities will come my way."

They certainly have. He made his Barbarians debut in March this year against Leicester Tigers and he even managed to get on the score sheet.

"Craig Dowd mentioned the Barbarians a few months ago but then I didn't hear anything for a while and then he told me I was definitely in two weeks ago.

"It was strange, but really awesome. It's not the same as a Premiership game. It is really chilled out and relaxed and so it was enjoyable playing without the pressure"

In true Barbarian style, the entertainment didn't stop once the game had finished.

"We certainly got through some beers that night and we had a really good time"

Rob, like everyone else, likes a few beers.

"Its all about balance. You need a life outside of rugby. You need a social life and other interests.

"There is a time and a place for it though. There is no point going for a heavy night when you have training in the morning."

Rob was snapped up by Wasps from Leeds Tykes last year but Rob still retains his Yorkshireness.

"When I'm back home I like to drink Theakstons but since moving to London I've had to start drinking Lager because its really hard to find a decent pint of Bitter."

BeerandRugby would like to thank Rob for his time and wish him all the best for his future.
