Saracens romped to win the
senior tournament but good play by other
teams in other games kept the tournament
runners up spot open till the last game.
Harlow and Daventry both entertained on
and off the pitch. The highlight of the
weekend was the new Tug o War competition
added this year. Home side West fought
hard in the final but Saracens had the
slight edge and added to the silverware.
Then it was the turn of
the Youngsters to entertain and they did.
West who has only had an under 16 side
since December impressed all with there
power, size, speed and skill to win all
matches and secure the winners spot. Second
place was awarded to Welwyn who finished
in this spot due to scoring one more try
than the very well drilled Rochford Hundred
side. (Both teams ended with 3 wins 2
lost making 11 league points each. Both
had a +15 points difference.)
The awards were presented
by Malcolm Baker (Tournament organiser
and RFU Rugby Ambassador)
He said “Tournaments
like this are fun with a hint of competitiveness,
it is all too easy to just watch England
play and forget about the Grass root clubs
were the players started their rugby careers
this tournament mixes both those grass
root clubs with the established premiership
ones. This weekend I hope we have seen
the next generation of international players
mixing, watching and playing against those
of today. This weekend has seen a player
play her 1st ever match and it was against
Saracens. Her 1st ever tackle was on Rob
(Helen Clayton) we all have made her dream
come true”.
